You-know-what is you-know-what.

Airmoto-san "When I say you-know-what, I mean!"

Nikken "It's you-know-what... you-know-what"

Overview[edit | edit source]

This is one of the new category tags added to replace the fashion category as a result of the category reorganisation on January 13, 2010.

"There was a problem that some series of videos on Nico Nico Douga are registered in the category 'Fashion' regardless of their actual content. To deal with this, we added the category 'You-Know-What'.

The intention of 'You-Know-What' is to be used in the Billy Aniki series and in the kind of videos that are currently dominant in 'Fashion'."

"Notice of Addition and Removal of Categories", January 13, 2010

This was a dedicated category for the Wrestling Series, which had previously dominated other categories, as well as for the videos that dominated the fashion category (which at the time were Hissu Amoto Sanrelated videos). Particularly in the Hissu Amoto San category, which was a major force in underground videos at the time, there was a movement to fill unpopular category tags with Hissu Amoto San related videos (this is also the case with the fashion category), and the management seems to have introduced the "You-Know-What" category as a countermeasure. Immediately after the category reorganisation was announced, the management took the mandatory action of locking the category with the tag "You-Know-What" and making it impossible for contributors and viewers to change the category.

The forces of Hissu Amoto San were outraged by the category enforcement measures and immediately attacked the "Diary" category tag, but the unstoppable category enforcement changes made most of the videos fit into you-know-what. Since then, due to the mass deletion of Hissu Amoto San related videos, there are now hardly any Hissu Amoto San related videos in other category tags or even in the you-know-what category.

The you-know-what belongs to the "Other" category group, and it served as a category tag that brings together the following genres. By the way, you-know-what and the author of you-know-what are not related.

After June 2019, the category tag "you-know-what" will be abolished as category tags will be abolished and classification will be based on the three functions of "custom ranking vertical column" + "genre" + "representative tags". The category tag "you-know-what" will be abolished, and the category tag "other" will be automatically assigned to the videos in the "you-know-what" category. However, the tag function will not be abolished, so as long as users continue to add "you-know-what" tags to their videos and continue to be selected as "representative tags" in the "other" genre, there is a possibility that the "you-know-what" tag will survive (whether or not is up to the user). In addition, for about six months from June, old category tags, such as the "you-know-what" tag, will be selected as "representative tags" regardless of the level of use.

Videos That Tend to be Found in This Category Tag[edit | edit source]

First Generation[edit | edit source]

The so-called early examples "you-know-what". Focusing on the invasion of unrelated categories, which was the cause of the category's establishment, there was a tendency for videos that were 'dangerous' in various ways to be attached to segregate videos that were 'dangerous' in various ways, such as fishing videos showing images and videos that had nothing to do with the thumbnails, videos that played with flames, vulgar material such as pornographic works and homo stories, videos that played with religion and ideology, videos that could be removed at the discretion of the management or at the behest of the rights holders, and videos that gave a psychological blackout.

Second Generation[edit | edit source]

This is an example from around 2012-2014/5. It was a time when it was difficult to explain from the nuances of the category names, and it tended to be used for various MAD videos and internet meme videos.

Third Generation[edit | edit source]

At the present time, that's "you-know-what". A Midsummer Night's Lewd Dream expanded its influence and the number of people who knew about the Example's Atrocery through Atrocery Dreams increased drastically, and people came to think that "Example's Atrocery = underground contents centering on Atrocery Dreams". Due to the influence of this, some people tried to exclude genres that have little relation to lewd dreams (except for ZERO for some reason) from the examples of the show, and there were arguments such as "XXX is not an example of that" or "XXX has been moved to another category". However, this has led to a wave of underground content moving into these things, and it has served as an early example of the isolation of underground content.
