Jörg Brümmer (Japanese: エドモンドさん Hepburn: Edomondo-san) is a German athlete. He was born in 1964 in Wolgast, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Names[edit | edit source]

Edmond-san comes from his own soramimi where he yells his name, which also comes from Street Fighter sumo wrestler Edmond Honda.

In Japanese, Jörg Brümmer's name is transcribed as Yorugu Buryumaa (ヨルグ・ブリュマー).

History[edit | edit source]

He started with judo during his school days. He was a sports soldier at the NVA in the ASK Frankfurt (Oder) and was admitted to the sports support group of the Bundeswehr after German reunification. In 1991 he finished fifth at the World Judo Championships.

After he finished his career as a competitive judo athlete in the spring of 1995, he began his sumo career in the autumn of the same year. At his first competition in Riesa, he became the European champion. In the following years, he won further international championships in the sport. In 1998, he became the first German amateur sumo world champion.

He's been the national sumo coach for men since October 2007.

Role in Muchimuchi SUMO[edit | edit source]

Edmond-san is seen as the trainer along with "Potato God" The Shimizu who helps train Dai-chan and Arai-kun with their sumo abilities. He's known for making kissing sounds and his inability to understand English.
